A Wellness Market Focused on Community & Wellbeing

About the Project

WHY LA CURVA?

The name La Curva was inspired by how locals have always referred to this location. From the very first time we became interested in purchasing the land, everyone described it simply as being “at La Curva” — meaning “the curve.” This curve is the sharp bend in the road between Garza Beach and the south entrance of Guiones Beach.

For locals, this spot has long been a landmark. They know it not only for its distinct curve but also for its unique beauty: its proximity to the ocean, its elevated position overlooking all of Guiones Beach, and its sense of peace.

This part of town remains largely undeveloped, yet its closeness to bustling Guiones makes it special. It feels connected, but its distance and views create a serene retreat. We envisioned a project that would bring energy, community, and connection to this new area while linking Garza and Guiones — two places with their own unique character.

After much brainstorming, we chose a name that would resonate both with locals and visitors alike. And so, La Curva Wellness Market was born.

Macro Analysis

COMMUNITY & ZONING

Because of its strategic location between Garza and Guiones, yet its lack of development, we saw an opportunity to positively impact this part of town. The southern end of Guiones Beach offers stunning scenic views, tranquil tide pools, and a more relaxed, less crowded atmosphere—making it a hidden gem with untapped potential.

Garza, on the other hand, is a growing town with fewer services than Guiones and was in need of a hub for connection, amenities, and community. This dual context created both an opportunity and a responsibility: to develop a new commercial and social point of interest in a way that benefits the local area rather than disrupts it.

With this in mind, we designed a project that would not only provide convenience but also enrich the cultural fabric of the region. Our vision integrates essential services with spaces for cultural and educational programs, gastronomy, entertainment, wellness, and community-driven initiatives—ensuring that the architecture and programming have a meaningful and lasting impact.

About the Project

BIO MASS

Our responsibility goes beyond the community—it extends deeply to the natural environment. The land we now call La Curva sits in a sensitive area, bordering the maritime zone, an adjacent mangrove, and pockets of surrounding green biomass.

When we acquired the property, it was heavily eroded from cattle grazing and nearly deforested, creating a disconnect between the nearby biomass and the mangrove that flows toward the ocean. Reviving and restoring this land became our priority.

We implemented an ecological restoration plan as our very first step, planting over 1,200 native trees on this compact site. This effort reconnected and expanded the biomass areas, strengthening their link to the mangrove and the ocean ecosystem.

In addition, every aspect of our infrastructure and construction has been designed with sustainability in mind, carefully considering the project’s impact on its surroundings.

ECOLOGICAL REFORESTATION EFFORTS in NOSARA

Our reforestation efforts were carried out in collaboration with VerdiAzul, an environmental organization based in Junquillal. Together, we conducted an in-depth study of the mangrove ecosystem and the surrounding green biomasses to identify the appropriate native plant and animal species that would be affected—or ideally, supported—by our intervention.

The research documented the presence of five mammal species, over 30 bird species, and 38 different tree species on site. Recognizing the critical importance of ecological connectivity, our strategy prioritized the creation of a continuous green corridor. This would allow wildlife—particularly birds and mammals—to move freely between the surrounding forests and the mangrove, ensuring habitat integrity and biodiversity conservation.

In the first stage of development, we planted 1,200 native trees across the site. As our project evolves, so will our ecological commitments—ensuring that regeneration and environmental stewardship remain at the core of everything we do.
